Please include a small sample of the worst of this story:
“You know, if I didn’t know you any better, I’d begin to wonder if you were pregnant,” Ted’s sudden comment caused Ryo to choke on another sip of his drink, and the honey blond had to stop himself from spitting it out in surprise. Ted himself was leaning against the wall with a cup of coffee at hand, having been conversing with Drake, who sat in a chair, when McLane had entered the break room. “But then you and Dee haven’t done anything outside of kissing,” the red head continued, “unless there’s something the two of you haven’t told us.”
Ryo forced down his water, remembering that he and Dee had decided to keep their relationship a secret for a while, in fear of being split up. “And why, exactly, do you say that?” he asked curiously, but his heart began to pound in his chest, not from just the surprise of one of his colleagues saying something like that, but at the thought that…
“Just because… my younger sister, Kelly, is sick like you are, throwing up every morning and what not, and my parents thought it was just a little stomach virus. A few days ago they found out that she’s pregnant.”
“Isn’t Kelly still in high school, though?’ Drake asked, looking surprised.
Ted nodded. “She’ll be eighteen in January. My parents were pissed when they found out, but they’ve cut her some slack, I think because they made the same mistake and had me when they were her age.”
Ryo had long since tuned out the conversation, his mind going crazy. His hands shook, and some of the clear liquid still inside the cup sloshed over onto his fingers, but he paid it no mind. Ted’s random statement kept playing over and over again in his brain, and he cursed himself for being so stupid, for not thinking of something like that before. If made perfect sense, and he almost fainted just thinking of it as a possibility, his mind still wanting to believe it was a virus, but now not so sure.
“Ryo, are you okay?” Drake’s concern snapped him back to reality, the honey blond noting the looks of surprise and confusion of both of the other men’s faces.
He forced himself to smile. “Oh, yeah, I’m fine. You just reminded me of something is all. My Aunt’s pregnant with her second child and…” which was the truth, but not what he was currently thinking of. “I’ve got to get back to my paperwork now, so I’ll talk to you guys later,” he said, and made a hasty retreat.
He didn’t go back to his and Dee’s office, however; in fact, he’d completely forgotten about the mountain of work that waited for him there. Instead, he went to the chief and faked a more severe illness that what he really had, therefore getting the rest of the day off.
This cannot be happening to me.
Ryo sat on the counter top in the bathroom, as nervous and as harried as a school girl at her first make out party. He’d spent an hour after he’d left the precinct just standing in one of the isles at the grocery store, not believing what he was about to do. It had taken all the courage and willpower within him to pick up one of those omen-like boxes, all the while trying to keep his heart from bursting right out of his chest. He never in a million years would have thought that he’d be in this position, and even if he had, he wouldn’t have expected it so soon. Maybe some time in the future. Not two weeks after he and Dee got together.

Not after he and Dee got together.
He’d walked home in a sort of daze, wasting another hour just staring off into space while walking down the sidewalk. Bikky had, of course, been curious as to the reasons for his early return, and after giving the twelve year old a wad of cash and instructing the boy to stay the night with Carol, the light haired detective had succeeded in getting his adopted son out of the apartment, and had kept the contents of the grocery bag a secret from him in the process.
Now Ryo was alone, which was what he wanted.
I must be going crazy. There’s just no way… God, I shouldn’t be doing this. It’s just a virus; just a stupid virus that’ll be gone in a few days.
His legs shook as he sat there, and his hands shook with the little white stick held between them. He couldn’t believe he had even contemplated doing this, told himself he was stupid for letting what Ted had told him get to his head. Dee would laugh at him if he were there right now.
I swear to God, if this thing comes out positive, I’m going to kill him! Dee Latener, you better hope and pray I’m just freaking out here!
He didn’t know how long he sat there, he lost track of time through all his thinking, trying to tell himself to calm down, that everything would be okay, and that he was blowing an innocent little comment way out of proportion. Minutes passed by in silence, until he finally forced himself to look back down at the test.
His black eyes widened, and limp fingers let the test fall to the floor with a clatter that echoed off the walls.
Holy shit, how…?

How, indeed. *sporks*
